The Editor welcomes scholarly papers, including primary research papers and literature reviews, on all aspects of nursing, midwifery and health-related research. Please read the authors instructions carefully for our journal's requirements and standards as well as information concerning the procedure after a manuscript has been accepted for publication in TJN.
Authorship

Independent Review
Manuscripts submitted to TJN will be subjected to at least two blind reviewers who are experts in the field. The names of the reviewers will not be disclosed to the author submitting a manuscript and the name(s) of the author(s) will not be disclosed to the reviewers. After submission you will receive an e-mail to confirm receipt of your manuscript within 24 hours.
Types of articles
TJN will publish different types of articles ranging from primary research, systematic reviews, commentaries, protocols and case studies from nurses and other healthcare researchers.
Primary research papers
Reports of primary research of all types using qualitative, quantitave or mixed methods. Full papers reporting primary research can be a maximum of 5000 words in length, although shorter papers are preferred. Authors should adhere to recognised standards for reporting research.

Review papers
Systematic reviews with or without meta-analyses. Papers reporting systematic reviews can be a maximum of 7000 words in length, again shorter papers are preferred. Authors should adhere to recognised standards for reporting systematic reviews.
Research Protocols
It is a good practice now for researchers to publish their research protocols therefore, primary research protocols and systematic review protocols will be considered. Protocol for an RCT or systematic review should not exceed 2500 words. Please state the trial registration number (if any) and when the findings are due to be reported.
Discussion papers
Scholarly papers and commentaries discussing relevant concepts or professional development or policy issues should be up to 1500 words. Short comments on an already published paper should not exceed 500 words.
Case studies
Case studies will only be considered if they are of high quality and contribute to the existing body of knowledge. Write to the Editor in the first place if you intend to submit a case study.
